Tarmac Surfacing – Cambridge
Tarmac is a familiar sight to us all, and perhaps most commonly associated with mundane applications like roads and public carparks. However, a tarmac surface doesn’t have to be dull. At SGR Surfacing Ltd, we can add kerbs and sett stones (aka Belgian blocks) to complement the simplicity of tarmac, transforming your driveway into a stylish, bespoke surface. At the planning stage, and throughout the entire project, we’ll work with you to create a unique driveway with plenty of character.
We use only stone mastic asphalt (SMA) in our tarmac. Containing a coarse aggregate, SMA is extra strong and resists deformation, extending the longevity of the surface.

The Process
We believe that for a top-quality driveway, thorough preparation is essential. After all, a surface is only as good as the foundations beneath it.
For the foundations of a tarmac surface, we use either a 10mm open-texture base, or at least 100mm of MOT Type-1 hardcore. Building robust foundations for our driveways is of paramount importance to us, and it’s a process we take very seriously.
